Profit taking sees power and gas prices close lower
Gas and power
Power and gas prices closed lower yesterday, extending losses from the previous session as speculative traders continued to take profits following recent market highs and a lack of fresh drivers. In storage related news, German state owned SEFE announced plans to increase gas storage levels ahead of winter to bring Germany’s storage above 70%, although it remains unclear whether the decision was made independently or at the direction of the German Economy Minister. Meanwhile, French workers threatened further industrial action after strikes curtailed around 7.2GW of nuclear capacity this week

Oil closed lower yesterday, with pressure stemming from reports that Saudi Arabia is offering additional oil cargoes via ship-to-ship transfers off Oman's Sohar port. The move helps offset the impact of the loss of the key East-West pipeline, tempering concerns over potential supply disruptions. Nevertheless, regional tensions remain elevated as clashes between Houthi and Saudi forces continue. Elsewhere, global equity markets strengthened as oil prices eased, although investors remain focused on the Fed's inflation outlook and the potential implications for future interest rate decisions. |
