To create a pleasant living space for people with terminal or life-limiting illnesses, the npower Business Solutions (nBS) Foundation helped St Gemma’s Hospice upgrade its Building Management System (BMS).

As the largest adult end-of-life service in Yorkshire, St Gemma’s Hospice supports more than 3,000 people and their families each year with expert, compassionate palliative care and a safe, comfortable environment.

However, its BMS at the Moortown site, which controlled the heating, air conditioning and hot water, was reaching the end of its operational lifespan. The grant from the nBS Foundation meant it could replace this system and create a home-like space for its patients and families.

“The new system will help support patient care and ensure that they and their families are comfortable.”

The new BMS will also help the hospice reach its sustainability goals. Elaine Campbell, Fundraiser for St Gemma’s Hospice, commented:

“It’s really fantastic to get funding from the nBS Foundation to help us with our project. As well as benefitting patients, it’s also helping the organisation.”

Catherine Turner from the nBS Foundation Panel said:

“I feel an enormous sense of pride being able to support projects like this. It’s great because it's energy efficient and promotes sustainability but also has wider benefits for all the great work St Gemma’s Hospice does. It also future-proofs them so they’ll be here for generations to come.”
