How to read your Smart meter

How you access and take readings from your Smart meter will depend on which type of meter you have. Choose an option below to get started:

 

Remember, as long as we’re able to communicate with your Smart meter, you don’t need to share readings with us, they are automatically sent to your account.

Electricity meters

Question Answer

Does your meter have a keypad?

  1. Begin by pressing the number 9.
  2. Wait until the display shows ‘IMP KWH’.
  3. Next you will see a series of numbers followed by ‘KWH’.
  4. Carefully make a note of the numbers from left to right - this is your meter reading.

Remember to exclude any leading zeros and any digits that appear after the decimal point.

Does your meter have two buttons to the right of the screen and one says ‘reconnect’?

  1. Begin by pressing the ‘Display’ or ‘Display Select’ button.
  2. Continue pressing the ‘Display’ or ‘Display Select’ button until you find the numbers followed by ‘KWH’.
  3. Carefully write down the numbers from left to right - this is your meter reading.

Remember to exclude any leading zeros and any digits that appear after the decimal point.

Does your meter have two ‘A’ and ‘B’ buttons under the screen?

  1. Start by pressing the ‘A’ button and wait a few seconds for the display to respond.
  2. Press the ‘A’ button again until you see the message ‘TOTAL ACT IMPORT’ along with some numbers followed by ‘KWH’.
  3. Carefully write down the numbers from left to right - this is your meter reading.

Remember to exclude any leading zeros and any digits that appear after the decimal point.

Does your meter have one orange button and two blue buttons?

  1. Start by pressing the orange button.
  2. Next, carefully write down the numbers from left to right - this is your electricity meter reading.

Does your meter have two white buttons to the right of the screen?

  1. Your meter is designed to automatically switch between screens so please take a moment to wait for the display that shows numbers followed by ‘KWH’.
  2. To record your meter reading, write down the numbers from left to right.

Remember to exclude any leading zeros and any digits that appear after the decimal point.

Does your meter have three buttons to the right of the screen?

  1. Begin by pressing the middle button.
  2. Next, carefully note the numbers displayed below ‘IMP’ from left to right - this is your meter reading.

Does your meter have a green ‘A’ button and grey ‘B’ button to the right of the screen?
  1. Please take a moment to look at the screen; there's no need to press any buttons.
  2. Carefully note the numbers next to ‘KWH’ from left to right as this is your meter reading. 

Remember to exclude any leading zeros and any digits that appear after the decimal point.

Does your meter have a green ‘A’ button to the right of the screen and a white ‘B’ button below it?

  1. Start by pressing the white ‘B’ button to activate the screen.
  2. Please wait until the screen shows ‘meter boost’ and then select ‘no’ by pressing ‘A’.
  3. At this point your meter reading will appear followed by ‘KWH’.
  4. Take a moment to write down the numbers from left to right - this is your meter reading.

Gas meters

Does your meter have two ‘A’ and ‘B’ buttons under the screen?

  1. Start by pressing the ‘A’ button.
  2. Keep pressing the ‘A’ button until you see ‘METER INDEX’ along with some numbers followed by ‘M3’.
  3. Carefully note down the numbers from left to right - this is your gas reading. 

Remember to exclude any leading zeros and any digits that appear after the decimal point.

Does your meter have two white buttons to the right of the screen?

  1. Start by pressing the appropriate button; it may be labelled 'OK' or display an arrow.
  2. Carefully write down the numbers from left to right - this is your gas meter reading.

Does your meter have three square red buttons?

  1. Begin by pressing the left button which may show the letter ‘A’.
  2. Carefully note down the numbers from left to right - this is your gas meter reading.

Does your meter have a button to the left and right of the screen?

  1. Begin by pressing either button on your meter.
  2. Once you see '01' followed by the numbers and 'M3', carefully write down the number from left to right - this is your gas meter reading.

Does your meter have a circle button and two arrow buttons?

  1. Begin by pressing the middle circular button.
  2. Next, carefully write down the numbers you see from left to right - this is your gas meter reading.

Does your meter have a keypad?

  1. Start by pressing the ‘9’ button to bring up the ‘VOLUME’ display on your screen.
  2. Give it a moment as the display changes. You will soon see a series of numbers followed by ‘M3’.
  3. Carefully write down the numbers from left to right - this is your gas meter reading.

Does your meter have orange and blue arrow buttons?

  1. Start by pressing the orange button.
  2. Carefully write down the numbers displayed from left to right - this is your gas meter reading.
