npower Business Solutions (nBS) has been working with Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) for more than a decade, and is a regular sponsor of its annual gala dinner, which has helped raise over £1.8 million to date.
In addition to sponsorship, we’re also committed to hosting regular fundraising events to support the charity’s vital work, and below we’ve detailed just a handful of the initiatives we’ve been involved with throughout 2025 so far.
In March and April, employees from our Customer Operations teams spent time volunteering at Ronald McDonald House Charities’ (RMHC) Birmingham House located in Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
The House is one of the charity’s largest purpose built accommodation facilities with 66 bedrooms. It offers families the chance to stay close to their child while they are in hospital, and provides a comfortable lounge, kitchen and play area, to give a sense of ‘home away from home’.

Carmel Gallagher, House Assistant at RMHCOur employees began each visit to the House with a tour and the opportunity to learn more about the charity’s incredible work and the families it has supported over the years.
During the March visit, the team helped to paint the boardroom windows with a colourful scene to celebrate spring. Using vibrant and eye-catching colours, they created rainbows, ducks, flowers and a smiling sun to hopefully bring a smile to those visiting.
“The children loved seeing the fantastic window displays our volunteers created and it made a big difference in brightening their stay”, commented Carmel Gallagher, House Assistant at RMHC.
April 2025
In April, nBS volunteers worked hard to clean the communal spaces including stairwells, corridors, the kitchen and also the bedrooms, to ensure all living areas were as spotless as possible for the families.
“The team did an ‘over and above’ job supporting the housekeeping team and we are so grateful for everything. It is always a pleasure having such wonderful teams in the house”, added Tracey McCoy, Deputy House Manager at RMHC.
Volunteering and helping charities is one of the initiatives that we focus on as part of our social value offering and commitment to giving back to the communities we serve.
Gail Burnett, People Lead at nBS commented: “The House is a brilliant initiative to support families going through some very difficult and challenging times, so we are grateful to be able to play a small part in helping with the housekeeping and window decorating.
"We hope to visit again soon and get stuck in with more activities and cleaning, and helping wherever we can.”
June 2025
In June, we held a samosa sale in our Solihull office, and invited colleagues to buy samosas and dips at lunch time. Plus, we sold bingo cards where colleagues could buy a square for a chance to win a prize. In total, we raised £871 from this activity, with all proceeds going to RMHC via a dedicated JustGiving page.
Looking ahead to the remainder of the year, we’ve also committed to additional fundraising activities for RMHC – from an inflatable 5k race to a toiletries drive, and will be planning further initiatives into 2026.
At nBS, we are committed to creating and promoting social value through improving the economic, social, and environmental wellbeing of the communities we serve.
July 2025
July was a bumper month for fundraising activities for RMHC. On 15 July, our Regulation, Policy, Compliance and External Affairs Team volunteered at the RMHC House in Birmingham, and worked hard cleaning the bedrooms, kitchens, stairwells, corridors, and communal living spaces.
Then on Wednesday 16 July, colleagues from our E.ON Control Solutions (ECS) division hosted their third annual charity golf day in aid of RMHC.
Held at th Hilton Puckrup Hall Hotel & Golf Club in Tewkesbury, which is set on an impressive 140 acres of parkland, the day
consisted of a light breakfast, 18 holes of
The event was a great success and enjoyed by all, and continued to raise awareness of RMHC and its vital work, while adding to our growing fundraising pot for the charity.
Craig Hall, National Strategic Account and Sales Manager at ECS, commented: “These types of events provide a great opportunity to showcase the amazing work that RMHC does to help children and their families through incredibly tough times.
“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended and donated on the day to help this very worthy cause. Since we started hosting these a few years ago, we’ve raised just over £7,750, and I hope we can continue to build on this in the future.”
On Saturday 26 July, 10 colleagues from across the business took part in the Inflatable 5k run in Coventry, which included the world’s largest inflatable obstacle course.
Colleagues took on 30 inflatable obstacles to reach the finish line, and gained sponsorship from friends, family, and colleagues to help us move closer towards reaching our 2025 fundraising target for RMHC.
